Old School House Rock Car Show
SUPERIOR – One of Mineral County’s signature summer events returns Saturday, replete with cherried-out classics, muscle cars and music from the '50s and '60s.
The Old School House Rock Car Show marks its 16th year on the manicured lawn of the Old Superior School on River Street starting at 8 a.m.
The Superior car show started in 2000 as a brainchild of a couple of car buffs, Gordon Hendrick and the late Jeff Carlson. Their families are no longer involved in the show, but Curtin said a new Founders Choice will be awarded this year. Carlson’s wife Judy will pick her favorite car.
Other prizes to be presented at 3:30 p.m. include the Mayor’s Choice, Sheriff’s Choice and the Top 12 picked by the car guys themselves. There’s also a trophy for the winner of the “unfinished class,” which Curtin says he's entering because he's been too busy organizing a car show to finish his car.
A side street is shut down for vendors who’ll offer hamburgers, cinnamon rolls, fruit pies, Kettle Corn and pulled pork sandwiches.
The non-alcoholic family event also features a Poker Walk, in which players draw a card at each of the 13 sponsoring businesses in town to see who comes up with the best poker hand. Curtin said a deejay is also working on a "Name That Tune" contest.
A huge yard sale across the street will feature medical equipment from Mineral Community Hospital.
