In Peoria, at the General Downing Airport, is a statue of General Wayne A. Downing, who was a four-star general in the U.S. Army.

The airport is southwest of the center of the city and just off I-474. From I-474, take the exit for Airport Road, go southwest for a short distance if exiting from the westbound lanes and turn right, or if traveling eastbound, take the exit and go straight, onto the access road to the airport - there is a sign at the corner. Continue on this road to an intersection with Maxwell Road and the statue on the left.

The statue is a large figure of a man set upon a dark base. The figure is looking downward holding a gun, pointed downward, as if he were on patrol duty. He is wearing a military uniform, with a collared shirt, and a Barret. The base has the following on the front:
