On August 2, 1990, the Iraqi Army invaded Kuwait. This invasion triggered a United States response, Operation DESERT SHIELD, to stop any invasion of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. On January 17, 1991, the US led coalition launched air attacks against Iraqi targets. On February 24, coalition ground forces began their attack.
