Beautifully carved from a large Monterey cypress pine stump, this is in the form of a seaman that is clinging to the ship's helm.
It may be a little 'too obvious', but ALL of 'our' soldiers arrived directly at the battlefield, or at least to a staging post from our island nation, by boat.
A plaque right beside the sculpture reads:
These Sculptures Honour the Memory of First World War Dead and Injured
