The Charles M. Goddard Center for the Visual and Performing Arts is an arts museum, theater for performing arts, with a lovely sculpture garden on its grounds.
This sculpture of a jester is located just left of the main entrance. A bronze plaque reads: "The Jester / by Arne Hansen / May 20, 1972". He has been here since shortly after the Center opened in 1970.
The jester is dressed in typical "jester clothes" with his pom-pom topped hat. He is in a dancing position, with his left leg behind him, actually touching the building. He is holding a mandolin in his left hand. The sculpture is life sized and displayed in a garden. The jester is standing on his right foot which is on the top of a ball.
