The Charles B. Goddard Center for the Visual and Performing Arts is an arts museum, theater for performing arts and has a lovely sculpture garden on the grounds.
On the southeast corner of its building, at the intersection of 1st Avenue SW and "D" Street, this lovely sculpture stands in a garden area. It shows a young dancer in her exercise garb, doing a pose unthinkable for most of us. She is standing on her left leg, leaning back at a 90 degree angle, with her right leg extended forward, and her hair flowing.
A bronze plaque nearby reads: "In memory of Ellen Woods Westheimer / Jerome Max Westheimer / Donated by Jerome "Bruzzy" Westheimer / Gloria B. Westheimer / "Cavallari" "
Note: There are several artists with the name Cavallari, and we don't believe the plaque is referring to the sculptor, but to the name of the piece.
