The plaque is on the side of old warehouses alongside the quay. These days the warehouses contain the Maritime Museum and this wall is the rear of the building.

The harbour has been improved and expanded a number of times since the building of the original quay, mainly because at that time it could not be used at low tide as the water level was too low.

The text on the plaque is as follows.
