"Whirlwind Mission
At this location
A day school opened here in 1897 for Cheyenne children was named for the friendly Chief Whirlwind. In 1904 to 1917, it was a well known mission school under the auspices of the Protestant Episcopal Church.

This small marker for the Whirlwind Mission is located in rural Blaine County, near Thomas, OK, on the west side of N 2470 Rd. The marker is on a concrete base with pole barriers around it and the name Whirlwind at the top. Be very careful accessing this marker after a rain since there are only dirt roads in this area.
