Standing Rock

- A glacial erratic, Hudson Bay granite, deposited here by Wisconsin Glacier about 12000 B.C.
-Collapsed portion fell about 1850.
-Cracks caused by alternate freezing and thawing.
-Depression around rock caused by bison rubbing on it.
This cairn commemorates the pioneers for who standing rock was a significant landmark, meeting place, picnic site an shelter. It guided homesteaders north from the railway at Gull Lake.
Erected 1988, By the RM of Pittville #169 on its 75th Anniversary and by the Hazelet Historical Society.
