The Carnegie library was originally built as a two-story stone building, and opened for business in 1906.
Original construction of the two-story building was of cast stone, with a large Classical pediment at the front entrance. By 1925, continual wind damage had severely compromised the roof, and threatened the walls of the library. To save the building, it was decided to remove the second floor, and remodel the building into a one-story library. The entrance pediment was altered to comply with the one-story layout. The original cornice being gone, the new roofline design was to use a terra cotta faux roof edge.
In 1941, an addition was added to the rear of the library, maintaining the same cast-stone construction, and continuing the three-band water table of the original building.
This building was used as the Ardmore library until a new facility was built in 1963, when it was sold to Ardmore Garden Clubs, Inc. It is currently housing the Pansy Garden Club and used for meetings, educational classes and is rented out for various events.
The library building was placed on the National Register in 2000.
