Frank Gehry had this fountain made in memoriam to Lilian Disney who loved to buy immitation Royal Delft china while travelling. Gehry used the real thing, two hundred Royal Delft porcelain vases from Holland , to be exact.
Frank Gehry gave Tomas Osinski (whose job was to turn the model into the real thing: 22 feet wide by 17 feet long by 7 feet high) a model, 14 inches in diameter. Water cascades quietly over each petal. At night, lights placed throughout the structure cause the flower to glow.
Osinski hired artists rather than metalworkers and tile setters to make this fountain.
