Christ Church was the first church built for the Anglican Church in Geelong and was opened in 1847, having had the foundation stone laid in 1843.Christ Church is constructed of Barrabool sandstone and is roofed in slate. It is designed in the Perpendicular Gothic Revival style with a squat crenellated tower by Edmund Blacket and is the oldest Anglican Church in Victoria still occupying its original site.
Additions were made in 1855 (transcepts and new chancel),1924 ( organ chamber)and 1970 (new vestries)
