The villa originated in 1904/05 for the owner Johanna Cappell. Up to the 2nd world war the villa was extended several times.

After the Second World War the villa was confiscated by American occupying troops and was used as a lodging of the military police. After Bonn had become the government seat of the Federal Republic of Germanyin 1949, the US-high-level commissioner John Jay McCloy determined the property in autumn of the year as his residence. At the end of the occupying statute in 1955 the building became residence of the British ambassador.
On the 5th of July, 2000 the villa was put down on the monument list of the city of Bonn.
