"The diverse habitats of this mountain region support a variety of different animals. Many are typical of those found in the Southern Sierra. Chipmunks, squirrels, coyote, and mule deer, as well as reclusive reptiles and amphibians live in Mount San Jacinto's forests, meadows, and rocky cliffs. This mountain region is also home to several endangered and threatened animals. They include the southern rubber boa and mountain yellow-legged frog. Protecting wildlife habitat means giving these species a chance to survive.
As you meander along the trails, you can witness this wildlife diversity firsthand Listen for the scolding of jays and squirrels, as well as the calls of chickadees, juncos, and ravens. Watch for signs of wildlife. Shredded pinecones are a telltale sign of the tree-dwelling gray squirrel."
