Since 2001, the
National Capital Commission (NCC) has designed and maintained dozens of similar columns along Confederation Boulevard. The NCC is an office within the federal government. Confederation Boulevard is a loop longer than seven kilometres which passes many sites of national significance.
Under glass, the column usually contains three posters as advertisements. The largest poster explains Confederation Boulevard and sites nearby. This large poster will change each year with differing themes. In 2017, for example, Canada celebrates 150 years of confederation as a nation. The smaller posters are changed more frequently. In September 2017, the one poster still promotes the camping possibilities available at Gatineau Park.
