The Eastern Prickly Pear cactus is a cold-resistant cactus that grows naturally in Canada.

Do to encroachment on its natural habitat and collection by "souvenir hunters" Point Pelee is one of only 2 locations in Canada where this cactus may still be found naturally. The other is near Long Point National Wildlife Area, also in Lake Erie.

The marker describes What it is, Why it is at Risk, and What you can do to help the plant recover.

It is located along the shoreline trail just north of the southern tip of Point Pelee. There are several cacti at its base.
