This is one of many street-art murals in downtown Akureyri, a popular spot for tourists visiting this small town that is also the second-largest city in Iceland. There is a thriving street-art scene in Iceland, with the capital city, Reykjavík, having several large murals on its blank walls, so it makes sense that such a scene would exist here as well.
The waymarked mural is located on the side of a building in downtown Akureyri, Iceland, and is done in a very recognizeable graffiti-art style popular in street-art culture.
The mural is of an all-seeing eye (reminiscent of the Masonic symbol on US currency) detached from a pyramid over a scattefing of threatening mines. The initials RWS are painted grafitti-style in deep red graffiti script across the bottom of the mural.
The ribbon around the pyramid with the seemingly angry all seeing-eye reads (in English) "While the natural lights blow through the blue sky . . . . Akureyri 2010"
Behind the pyramid the Icelandic horizon with its volcanoes are show in dusk, while a dancing ribbon of the Northern Lights trails through the sky. Beneath the pyramid at its base are dozens of threatening sea mines, with spikes. The mines are also scattered in shadow across the large red graffiti letters of RWS -- this seems like an allusion to gunshots in gangsta culture to us.
The mural is the creation of artists Quick, Goodkider, Role, Kask and Muck, whose names are on the right side of the mural.
