While Angus McMillan only arrive in Sydney, Australia in 1839 from Scotland, he quickly was involved in finding permanent pastures for Captain Lachlan Macalister, which entailed heading to Victoria.
As a result, he worked his way through the Gippsland region, just ahead of another explorer, Strzelecki. He crossed the Latrobe River very close to where the Sale Swing Bridge currently stands, and enabled Sale to be made into a "Port" city - after his death.
There is an information beside the Obelisk detailing the life of McMillan.
Unfortunately I visited this headstone and Obelisk at night time, as part of a geocache hunt, photographed at 1850, Monday, 9 May, 2016.
