Green Lake Fur Trade
The North West Company's Fur trade post at the North end of Green Lake, established in 1782 was opposed by Essex House of the Hudson's Bay Company, built in 1799.
Open conflict occurred between the rivals in 1816-17.
After the union of the companies in 1821 the Hudson's Bay Company continued to operate in the old North West Company Establishment.
Situated on the overland route between Churchill and Saskatchewan Rivers, Green Lake was visited by Thomas Frobisher, David Thompson and Sir John Franklin.
