A standard 24" by 12" by 0.75" flat bronze military grave marker for Pvt. Asa Day who was killed at age 21 during the Revolutionary War during the Mohawk River campaign indicates he was 121 years old at the time of his death. Clearly he was born in 1759 but the grave marker list the year of birth as 1659.

The bronze plaque with an error in the year of birth is inscribed:

ASA DAY
PVT CONTINENTAL LINE
REVOLUTIONARY WAR
1659 1780
{LATIN CROSS}

A sandstone headstone with an angel motif in the lunette has the correct information about Pvt. Asa Day. It is inscribed:

In Memory of
Mr. Asa Day
Son of Mr. Tim
& Mrs. Sarah Day.
who was killed
in the service of
his country with
Col, Brown, up
the Mohawk
River 19, Oct.
1780 in the 21,
Year of His Age.

Pvt. Asa Day left home along with of a company of West Springfield residents on a expedition against the Indians in New York. They were sent to Tryon County and stationed at the Fort Paris stockade to protect settlers in the Mohawk Valley from threatening attacks by Tories and Indians. On October 19, 1780, while the company attempting to join the forces of General Robert Van Rensselaer, they were ambushed by Tories and Indians. He, along with Captain Levi Ely and Colonel John Brown and half the company, was killed at the Battle of Stone Arabia, NY. His father Timothy Day, who is buried nearby, and his brother Lewis Day survived the attack.
