Andrew Carnegie built more than 2,500 libraries around the world, but I call this one the "flagship" because it is the main library in Pittsburgh. That's the city where he made all that money to build all those libraries.
The Carnegie Library is a cornerstone of the city's Oakland neighborhood, home to the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. The library is in between the two campuses.
This library was completed in 1895 as one of six in Pittsburgh that were funded by a $1,000,000 gift. I'm not sure that you could build one library for a million bucks nowadays!
