Île-à-la-Crosse
The native people of Île-à-la-Crosse were not directly in the fighting during the Metis-Uprising of 1885.
However, Île-à-la-Crosse was the birth place of Louis Riel Senior. Louis
Riel's father. In 1846, Father Tachè established a church in Île-à-la-Crosse.
In 1860, "The Sisters of Charity" came west to operated a school and nursing station in the village.
Sister Sara Riel, Louis Riel's sister came to Île-à-la-Crosse convent in 1871. She took the name of Sister Marguerite-Marie. She died in 1883 and was buried in the village.
Site of burial is in the Île-à-la-Crosse cemetary,
