As the plaque reads:

St. John The Baptist Mission

The mission of St. John the Baptist, founded on September 10, 1846, was the first permanent Roman Catholic Mission in Saskatchewan. In 1860-61 a Covent, dispensary for the sick, and a school were established. Destroyed by fire in 1867, the mission and convent was rebuilt. Floodind forced the abandonment of the site in 1905. The "Grey Nuns" resumed their work in 1917 and despite fires in 1920 and 1925, remained to assume direction in April, 1928, of the government hospital which had been constructed the previous year.
