A bronze plaque that is mounted to a limestone rock at a bridge that crosses of the Arkansas river.

The Plaque Reads:
In Memory of John Greenleaf Nichols

John Nichols served the City of Canon City as Parks Director
from June 28, 1976, until his untimely passing on July 1, 2008.

John's accomplishments with the Parks Department are far
too numerous to list here, but all you have to do is look and
you will find his footprints in each and every park in our
community.

The connection of the Arkansas Riverwalk Trail to the
Tunnel drive trailhead was his ultimate goal, as
it held a special place in his heart.

The crossing provides that final connection and celebrates
the completion of John's goal. it is with great honor that
the City of Canon City recognizes john and his tireless
contributions to ur community by dedicating this crossing in
his memory. to be known forevermore as the:
"John Nichols Crossing"
Location: Arkansas Riverwalk
