Antje-Fountain of the sculptor Frijo Müller-Belecke in Hamburg-Poppenbüttel

Antje (* 25 May 1976, † 17 July 2003 in Hamburg) was a Pacific walrus (Odobenus rosmarus divergens) of the Hamburger Tierpark Hagenbeck, which for many years was the mascot of the NDR (Northern German Broadcasting).

In 1978 Hagenbeck's animal park was used as a break-up during a broadcasting break for the ad-free NDR television, including a short film with Antje, in which the walrus, supported on the pelvic rim, Logo "inflates". The film, and thus the animal, quickly became popular with the audience, so that the NDR recorded the walrus in his logo in 1984: the head of the walrus appeared in a circle, including the letters NDR.

Antje died in the night of July 17, 2003, after her early death had announced a few days earlier. The animal had not eaten anything for several days and could not leave the pool. However, Antje reached an age of 27 years (average life expectancy of a walrus: about 20 years) and was thus one of the three oldest known walruses in the world. The death of the animal was even reported in the ARD's regional reports; these are however produced by the NDR.

Antje has now been preserved dermoplastically and has been visited since the beginning of September 2004 in the Zoological Museum of Hamburg. A bronze sculpture of the walrus stands as a water-spouting fountain figure at the Alster shopping center in Hamburg-Poppenbüttel, a survival-sized statue at a playground behind the Bergedorf Town Hall.
