The Roosevelt Tunnel was built as a drainage tunnel for the mines in the Cripple Creek and Victor Mining District. The mins need a way to get rid of the water that was in the mines.In 1907 construction began on the tunnel. By 1915 the tunnel was over miles long. The Roosevelt Tunnel has discharged as much as 17,000 gallons per minute.
To this day there is water that still comes out of the Roosevelt Tunnel. When you walk up to the entrance you can feel the cold air coming out of the tunnel.
There is also a concrete foundations near the tunnel.
