Agawam has placed a series of Purple Heart Trail markers along
the southbound, west side of Main Street. Each marker honors a veteran that received the Purple Heart during their military service.
The purple and white sign contains the image the Purple Heart medal on the left side and the inscription:

Kevin Dupont was a 1976 graduate of Chicopee High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps before joining and then joined the Army National Guard in 1984. He was an infantryman, small arms readiness training officer when he volunteered for duty in Afghanistan in 2008. He was attached to the 1st Brigade, 203rd Corps of Afghan National Army Embedded Training Team.
Sgt. 1st Class Kevin Allan Dupont died on June 17, 2009, at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas following a three-month battle to overcome burns to 65% of his body that he received on March 8, 2009, when his Humvee ran over an improvised explosive device near Kandau, Paktia Province, Afghanistan. He was 52 Years old.
