From the whatpub website:-
An historic pub near the base of Skirrid Fawr with origins dating back to the early 12th century, although the present building is dated much later. A cobbled forecourt leads to an interior where much old stone and woodwork is in evidence. Very good food. More than 180 people were hanged in the stairwell which is passed as you go to the ladies toilet! The landlord will be pleased to give the curious a guided tour.
