This somewhat sexist historic marker was surprisingly erected in 2015 in honor of Janice Hawkins who left an indelible mark on Troy University.
The marker reads as follows:
JANICE HAWKINS PARK
"An excellent wife is the crown of her husband."

Janice Hawkins Park was named in honor of the first lady of Troy University, a devoted wife and loving mother, whose work benefited TROY in the fine arts, service to students, internationalization of the University, and support of military veterans. Mrs. Hawkins' devotion to the appearance of the university grounds produced a campus of unmatched beauty."
