The awkwardly-worded Elmore County Veteran's Memorial in front of the courthouse in downtown Wetumpka is dedicated to the veterans of Elmore County who served in the Army in all conflicts.
The memorial consists of a gray granite base with a black granite platform on which stands 3 other panels: 2 trapezoidal panels of gray granite with long lists of names, on either side of a central black granite panel topped with a statue of an Army soldier standing at attention with his rifle on his shoulder. Two other panels of pointed slabs of gray granite are also associated with this Memorial and contain contain more names of other individuals of Elmore County who have served in the United States as soldiers, whose names were not able to be carved onto the central memorial due to lack of space.
The black granite platform reads:
"Dedicated to those who proudly serve our great country"
And the central black granite panel reads:
"Remembering the assaults on our country September 11, 2001, we honor the soldiers of Elmore County Alabama that have served to establish global democracy that none should thirst for freedom."
Apparently, no one from Elmore County has ever served in United States Naval forces, the US Marine Corps, the US Air Force, or in the Coast Guard.
