Over 50 guitars are located in the Guitar Gallery: The Quest for Volume within the Museum of Pop Culture. One of them is a 1954 Fender Stratocaster guitar. A nearby placard reads:
An early Space Age triumph, this guitar soared into the stratosphere
The Stratocaster created in 1954 by Leo Fender and the California team was even more successful then the Telecaster. The revolutionary "Strat" had so many design breakthroughs that it changed the way electric guitars were made and played.
Versatility was the guitar's greatest feature--whether you play blues, rock or R&B, it whispers and screams on command. Over time the Strat became the world's most popular and imitated electric guitar.
