Near the end of Thomas Bernhard's post-modern novel "Wittgenstein's Nephew", the narrator who is a writer informs the reader of a time when one of his plays was performed at the Burgtheater. He goes off on a rant about how the play was a flop because the actors are in charge of the theater and they had prevented a particular actor from performing in the play. The narrator had specifically written the play for that actor. He refers to the remaining third rate actors as "prostitutes" The rejection of the leading actor caused the narrator's choice for the leading lady to also withdraw. The narrator believes that the remaining actors deliberating sabotaged the performance. "I remember running from the theater as if I were running away from an institution that had destroyed not only my play but my whole mental capacity."
