Gazing up at the night sky is a profound experience that human beings have shared since time immemorial. One of the most magical and significant moments of stargazing is witnessing a falling star. Balanced on one of it's 5 points, Falling Star captures this magic and brings a piece of the sky down to earth atop the toboggan hill of Half Moon Bay Park.
Creating a bridge between the immensity of the celestial universe and our place on earth, the etched and pitted surface of the cast aluminum star tells the story of its long journey. At night, light gently shines through thousands of tiny holes emulating a starry sky.
Don Maynard's work can be found in the collections of the Cith of Ottawa, The Canada Council Art Bank, The Agnes Etherington Art Centre, And the Robert McLaughlin Art Gallery.
