Over 50 guitars are located in the Guitar Gallery: The Quest for Volume within the Museum of Pop Culture. One of them is a 1931 Dobro Model 55 guitar. A nearby placard reads:
The Dobro was the sound of country
Behind its metal faceplate, the Dobro has a resonator cone similar to those in the National Steel--accept it faces forward. The resonator amplified the sound, while the wooden body gave it a warm,
rustic tone embraced by country musicians such as the Duncan Sisters.
The Dobo's name comes from the Dopyera Brothers: John Dopyera invented the resonator guitar and with his brothers, formed the Dobro company in 1929.
