The bridge was originally over a stretch of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway between Mickle Trafford near Chester in England and Dee Marsh in Wales.
These days the railway is redundant and has been converted into a shared Greenway for cyclists and walkers. The Greenway is 8 miles long, but forms part of the much longer National Cycle Route 5 that connects Holyhead with Reading.
