In Cambridge, on the campus of Harvard University, is the Widener Library Building, built in 1914, which has a sign on it that is a monument to Gore Hall on this location before the library was built.

The library building is located on the campus, near the college quad known as "The brickyard."

The sign is on the northwest corner of the building, on the same side as the stairs leading to the entrance to the library. It is below eye level.

The sign has the following text on it:

"On this spot stood
GORE HALL
Architect Richard Bond Supervisor Daniel Treadwell
Built in the year 1838 named in honor of
CHRISTOPHER GORE
Class of 1776
Fellow of the College Overseer Benefactor
Governor of the Commonwealth Senator of the United States
The first use of Book-stacks was in this library
In 1877 when the easterly wing was added
Gore Hall contained the Harvard Library until 1913
and being then long outgrown
was torn down to make place for
THE HARRY ELKINS WIDENER MEMORIAL LIBRARY
__
This tablet has been placed here by the
University Library Committee
1916"

An image of the former library is visible at the bottom.

The former Gore Hall was a stone building made of Quincy granite.
