Few people will ever find this Vertical Control Mark without guidance, as it is well hidden. Once one knows where to look, however, it becomes relatively easy to unearth.
Unearth is an appropriate word here as the Vertical Control Mark, monumented in 1978, is in a valve box type cover, now slightly below ground level, one foot north and one foot west of the junction of the fence and the swinging gate at the main entrance to the
Museum of the Plains Indian in Browning. The box was covered with years of dust, dirt and dead grass, requiring a bit of digging before it appeared. Inside was more dust and dirt, requiring more digging before photos could be gotten.
