This pillar is situated on the 244 metre hill known as West Schurroch, (not named on the OS Landranger map). The hill is adjacent to the narrow unclassified road that runs between the villages of Kirkton of Kingoldrum and Bridgend of Lintrathen, the road runs over the summit of the neighbouring East Schurroch and skirts West Schurroch to the north, where the pillar stands at the top of the steep north slope west of a wood. The pillar shares the summit with a Standing Stone, the only survivor of a Stone Circle that once stood here. The pillar is in good condition and the best views are to the south over Strathmore.
STEEPNESS: The hill is very steep direct from the roadside, but a gate a few hundred yards to the west on the road leads to an easier gradient.
TERRAIN: Grassy pasture with a few rough bits of scrub and stony outcrops to avoid on the steeper ground.
ACCESSIBILITY: The pillar is only a few minutes from the road, but parking along the narrow confines is awkward. Kingoldrum is over a mile to the east and Lintrathen is over two miles to the west.
NAVIGATION: The pillar is unseen from the road below, but is easily found once up on the higher ground where it stands on the western edge of the wood.
DANGER: The steep north slope above the road which offers the most direct route should be avoided.
