The Townhouse Hotel was built in 1933 and consisted of 54 single room and bath rentals. In 1967, eight of the 4th floor units were converted into two-room efficiencies. In 2014, the building was purchased for renovation and has been converted into 17 apartment units.
This is a four-story building with buff brick veneer. The building was built into a natural hill so that the first story is 37 ft. wide and only 72 ft. deep. The 2nd and 3rd floors are the full 140 ft. deep, and the 4th floor is shortened to only 57 ft.
The east and west elevations are plain with windows placed according to the apartments within, and have been renovated to one-over-one double-hung windows. Windows on the south facing facade remain three-over-three units. The entrance which faces N.W. 5th Street has three bays, separated by pilasters with decorative brickwork. The entrance is a single metal door in the recessed center bay. The door has an elaborate concrete surround with a high, saw-tooth arch above. Within this arch, mounted perpendicularly to the wall is an oval sign reading "The Town House". The roof is flat, with a three-row area of terra cotta tiles at the south roof line.
The building was placed on the National Register in 2014.
