Antique photo of the Alster lock "Fuhlsbütteler Schleuse" from about 1897.
The ten Alster locks of the Alster regulate the water levels along the course of the river from the Alster source in Schleswig-Holstein to the mouth of the Alster into the river Elbe in Hamburg. Except for two ship sluices in the inner city of Hamburg, they are ramparts.
The Fuhlsbüttel lock was built in 1448 and renovated in 1862, 1914 and 2013.
Year photo was taken: 1897
