The mural is made up of fifteen canvas panels that are attached, and for the most part, the seams and assembly screws aren't visible from a distance except if you're trying to spot them. Going from the left, a cowboy looks to be taking a break -- his hand appears to be on a white fence, behind him -- while seated on his horse, with mountains and clouds in the background. Below the mountains is a barbed wire fence with prickly pear cactus in front of it. Next is a silhouette of the state of Texas, with the state flag superimposed upon it as best as can be done, and there is a cattle skull below it. Moving right, an oil derrick can be seen in the background, with mountains beyond, and a cotton field leads up to the old Stanton County Jail, which is still standing today. A rattlesnake is coiled around a pair of boots, in a threatening pose, and he can't see the longhorn behind him. Native American tepees are seen in the background on a partly-cloudy day, and in the foreground is a windmill and palm trees (Note the author's combined initials, T.C., hidden near one of them.). Mountains are still in the background as a train locomotive chugs along, and behind it is the old Carmelite Monastery, which is also still standing today. A pioneer woman, blue bonnet atop her head, gazes out to the left. The author, Thomas Castro, signed his name on her left arm and dated it 2003, with an acronym, "OSTD".

Unfortunately, Mr. Castro is no longer with us (See Relevant Web Site). He was killed in a truck accident in 2004, and this mural is noted as a good way for the town to remember him. He was an art teacher and sports coach at Stanton Middle School
