The 18th century brownstone grave marker of James Butler contains a curly haired winged cherub in the lunette and the following inscription:

In memory of
Mr. James Butlar
who was killed in a
well Octr 10th, 1799
in the 50th year
of his age.

O! don't forget that you must die
And turn to dust as well as I.
