There existed in Lhommaizé a small Romanesque church of St. John the Baptist, normally oriented, whose cure depended on the chapter of Morthemer.
It was rebuilt from 1870. The date of 1871 appears on the handle of the front door.
The church, built by the chauvinist Brimaud on the plans of the Abbe Brisacier and the architect Ardouin, was consecrated on October 15, 1876. It has a Latin cross plan and replaces the materials of the destroyed building.
The bells:
- Two of them were founded by Georges Bollée of Orléans in 1885 and baptized on 22 November by Bishop Bellot des Minières, Bishop of Poitiers. One is called Albertine-Louise-Marie, the other Jeanne-Marie-Louise.
- Two more, older, occupy the upper floor of the belfry, completed in 1893: Louise-Marie , offered by the Duke of Mortemart and blessed on 28 September 1732, Jeanne , Blessed in 1850 by Bishop Pie.
