Rudolf von Eichthal:
Rudolf von Eichthal (* 18. März 1877 in Mährisch Trübau; † 14. August 1974 in Wien) war ein österreichischer Offizier, Schriftsteller und Musiker.
Eichthal stammte aus dem Adelsgeschlecht Pfersmann von Eichthal und absolvierte eine Offiziersausbildung in der k.u.k. Armee. Im Ersten Weltkrieg diente er - zuletzt als Oberst d. G. - 1914/1915 bei der Tiroler Landesverteidigung, 1916–1918 als Generalstabschef des Korpsabschnitts Südtirol, 1918 in Russland und am Balkan.
Nach Kriegsende trat er in den Dienst der Bundestheater und war Mitglied des Bühnenorchesters. Er gründete den Trompetenchor der Bundestheater und leitete diesen bis 1937, als er in den Ruhestand trat.
Vom Beginn der 1930er-Jahre an trat er mit heiteren Romanen und Erzählungen hervor, in denen er detailreich und lebendig den Alltag und die Kultur in der k.u.k. Armee schildert. Dabei zeigt sich in seinem Werk eine nostalgisch-verklärende Sicht auf Monarchie und Armee. Sein Hauptwerk ist die Trilogie um den Halbwaisen Erwin Spielvogel auf seinem Weg vom Kadetten bis zum Feldmarschall, in den Romanen Der göttliche Funke (1937), Die goldene Spange (1941), Der grüne Federbusch (1951) sowie Der Marschallstab (1955). Eichthals Romane erzielten, obwohl sie fast nur auf den relativ kleinen österreichischen Büchermarkt abzielten, hohe Auflagen.

Rudolf von Eichthal (born 18 March 1877 in Mährisch Trübau; died 14 August 1974 in Wien) was an Austrian officer, writer and musician.
Eichthal came from the noble family Pfersmann von Eichthal and completed an officer training in the Austrian-Hungarian Army. In the First World War he served - lastly as Colonel of the General Staff Service - 1914/1915 at the Tyrolean state defense, 1916-1918 as general staff of the corps section South Tyrol, 1918 in Russia and the Balkans.
After the war, he joined the Bundestheater (state theatre) and was a member of the stage orchestra. He founded the Trumpet Choir of the Bundestheater and directed it until 1937, when he retired.
From the beginning of the 1930s onwards, he emerged with cheerful novels and narratives, in which he gave a detailed and lively picture of the everyday life and the culture in the Austrian-Hungarian Army. His work reveals a nostalgic-transfiguring view of the monarchy and the army. His main work is the trilogy about the half-orphan Erwin Spielvogel on his way from the cadet to the field marshal, in the novels 'Der göttliche Funke' [The divine spark] (1937), 'Die goldene Spange' [The golden buckle] (1941), 'Der grüne Federbusch' [The green hackle] (1951) and 'Der Marschallstab' [The marshal's baton] (1955). Eichthal's novels, even though they were aimed at the relatively small Austrian book market, were subject to high circulation.
