The inquest into his death was reported in the South Coast Times and Wollongong Argus on 20 September 1912. It is very detailed so only partly reproduced here:

Mr. Edward Frost Fatally Injured.

Mr P. T. Doyle, Deputy Coroner, held an inquest as to the death of Edward Frost in the mine on the previous day. Matthew Frost, brother, deposed that he and deceased were members of the firm of Frost Bros. haulage contractors. On Monday morning about 10 a.m. was engaged outside Mt. Kembla Colliery, deceased being in company with me from something we heard we went inside together to that part of the mine known as the shaft section. We found the bell wire broken and that we would have to get some wire and he then decided to return to wards the mouth with the intention of securing some wire. Within three or four minutes afterwards I heard a fall of stone behind me, and I shouted out 'Are you safe, Ted?
