Edward Brooks's death was reported in the Illawarra Mercury on 11 November 1948 as:

Edward Brooks (24), of Corrimal, was fatally injured on the Prince's Highway, Figtree, on Saturday afternoon. He was riding his motor cycle in a southerly direction and in taking a left hand bend in the road veered onto the incorrect side of the road. A car driven by Mr. T. Frank of Figtree was coming in the opposite direction. Mr. Franklin stopped his car, but the cycle struck the off side front mudguard and Brooks was thrown to the roadway.

The Illawarra Ambulance conveyed him to the Wollongong Hospital where life was pronounced extinct.
