The mural’s theme is “Camp Hood to Fort Hood — Embracing our Rich Military History,” a tribute to the bond between Fort Hood and Killeen, and a display of the talent that lives in the community.

“Public art in historic downtown Killeen is important, because it can be viewed to activate civic dialogue and provide a vehicle for the community to express its identity,” said Alisha Workman, revitalization planner for the city of Killeen. “This community mural project connects artists with the Killeen community, while enhancing our experience of a place — adding vitality and liveliness.”

“I hope it reminds them that people think about them and respect the veteran, and we want to thank the veterans for their service,” said Steven Culver, president of the Killeen Art Guild.

Culver, a Navy veteran, served for three and a half years. His father served in Vietnam. “We hope that this (mural) is something of their own history they can reflect on,” Culver said.
