BELOW YOU IS THE PIONEER BORE OF THE
MOFFAT TUNNEL, CONVERTED BY THE PEOPLE
OF DENVER. TO A WATER TUNNEL FOR
CARRYING FRASER SYSTEM WATER TO THE
METROPOLITAN AREA FIRST USED IN 1936,
IT NOW SUPPLIES WATER FOR MORE THAN
A THIRD OF A MILLION PEOPLE. MORE THAN
40 MILES OF CANALS, TUNNELS AND PIPE
CONCEALED AMONG THE TREES OF THE
ARAPAHO NATIONAL FOREST, DIVET AND
COLLECT THIS WATER. THE 6 FOOT PIPE
IN FRONT OF YOU IS PART OF THIS SYSTEM.
THE LARGEST CONDUIT IN THE SYSTEM
IS 10 FEET 6 INCHES IN DIAMETER.
