Jean Giono, né le 30 mars 1895 à Manosque et mort le 9 octobre 1970 dans la même ville, est un écrivain français. Un grand nombre de ses ouvrages ont pour cadre le monde paysan provençal.
Inspirée par son imagination et ses visions de la Grèce antique, son œuvre romanesque dépeint la condition de l'homme dans le monde, face aux questions morales et métaphysiques et possède une portée universelle.

Il devint l'ami de Lucien Jacques, d'André Gide et de Jean Guéhenno, des peintres Georges Gimel et Serge Fiorio, ce dernier étant son cousin issu de germain. Il resta néanmoins en marge de tous les courants de littérature de son temps.

Jean Giono s'intéresse aussi au cinéma. Il écrit le scénario, les dialogues, met en scène le film Crésus avec Fernandel. En 1963, dans la froideur de l'Aubrac, Giono supervise le tournage de l'adaptation de son roman "Un roi sans divertissement", réalisé par François Leterrier.
D'autres réalisateurs ont adapté des œuvres de Giono, de son vivant ou après sa mort, et ont tourné : Les Grands Chemins (Christian Marquand, 1963), Deux cavaliers de l'orage (Gérard Vergez, 1983), Le Hussard sur le toit (Jean-Paul Rappeneau, 1995), Les Âmes fortes (Raoul Ruiz, 2001), Le Chant du monde (Marcel Camus, 1965) ou L'Homme qui plantait des arbres, film d'animation du québécois Frédéric Back en 1987.

EN Jean Giono
Jean Giono, born on 30 March 1895 in Manosque and died on 9 October 1970 in the same city, is a French writer. Many of his works are based on the Provencal peasant world.
Inspired by his imagination and his visions of ancient Greece, his novelistic work depicts the condition of man in the world, facing moral and metaphysical questions and possesses a universal scope.

He became the friend of Lucien Jacques, André Gide and Jean Guéhenno, painters Georges Gimel and Serge Fiorio, the latter being his first cousin. Nevertheless, he remained on the margins of all the literary currents of his time.

Jean Giono is also interested in cinema. He wrote the script, the dialogues, directed the film Croesus with Fernandel. In 1963, in the coldness of Aubrac, Giono supervises the filming of the adaptation of his novel "Un roi sans divertissement", directed by François Leterrier.
Other filmmakers adapted Giono's works, either during his lifetime or after his death, and shot: Les Grands Chemins (Christian Marquand, 1963), Deux cavaliers de l'orage (Gérard Vergez, 1983), Le Hussard on the Roof (Jean-Paul Rappeneau, 1995), Les Smes fortes (Raoul Ruiz, 2001), Le Chant du monde (Marcel Camus, 1965) or The Man Who Planted Trees, animated by Quebecois Frédéric Back In 1987.
