"Montreal's "Giant Ferris Wheel" Delayed Until End Of August
The wait continues for 'La Grande Roue' to open.
Elias Grigoriadis · July 26, 2017
This year, Montreal announced that a massive Ferris wheel was going to be installed in the Old Port this June and everyone was justifiably excited.
Well, in classic Montreal fashion, it has been plagued with delays and push-backs and every time we think we'll finally get to enjoy a new landmark for the city; it gets delayed again.
Due to incessant rain, the construction strike and the construction holiday, the opening will be pushed until this August with no official date as of yet. But the team told us that as soon as the construction holiday is over, they will work really hard to open the site as soon as possible for Montrealers and tourists to enjoy.
The $27-million wheel located on Bonsecours Island will be in place for at least five years. So at least there's going to be loads of time to enjoy it, the real problem is that this delay is once again symbolic of a greater issue in Montreal that has projects delayed, pushed back, or canceled over and over again."
